Quote of the Year!

Joy muscle tests Keira during a session.

My big girl recently came up with a big idea.  I, however, wasn’t particularly keen on my role in her plan!  I told her that I wasn’t sure it was a good idea.  I suggested that she muscle test* to see whether or not it was a good idea.  Well…her response to my suggestion, was the single greatest quote of our first year of homeschooling.  Maybe the greatest quote ever!

She shook her head, looked me straight in the eye and said,

“I’m not a person that has to do muscle testing.  I just go with my third eye.”

From the mouths of babes!  Eight years old.

And why should she muscle test?  Why would she doubt herself?  She KNOWS she has a cool idea.  And she made it clear that I shouldn’t doubt her intuition (her third eye), either!  Our children are our teachers.

My eight year old may not know any formal math operations…but she’s sure got a strong sense of self!  I couldn’t be prouder.

*Process to muscle test yourself:  Stand with your feet shoulder width apart.  Ask your body to “show me yes” and then “show me no”.  For me, “yes” makes my body fall forward and “no” makes my body fall backwards.  Once you have calibrated your “yes” and “no”, ask your question and see how your body responds (with a “yes” or a “no” movement).  The idea is that you’re not thinking with your brain, instead you’re communicating with your higher self (through your body).  It takes a while to get the hang of it, so keep trying!

  1. I love this! I found your blog from a re-post off of Jennifer Vogel’s fb page. I have pretty strong intuition as well but when i am feeling anxious/blocking my intuition, muscle testing saves me! truly. i wish more people knew and talked about this!

    • Hi ERika! Thanks for your comment! It took me a while to trust the process — or myself, I guess!! And muscle testing is a really good tool for a mama’s toolkit!! Thanks so much for reading my blog! Warmly, Tracy
