OFFKLTR Health & Beauty Make Over!

Our medicine cabinet and shower used to be stocked with products FULL of chemicals.  So…I am working on getting the chemicals out and replacing them with all-natural products.  It remains a work in progress, but here’s a list of what we’ve done/found so far.

While you can buy most of these products at Whole Foods or natural food stores, but I really recommend getting whatever products you can on one of the following sites:  Swanson’s Vitamins or Vitacost.  These sites are sooo much less expensive.  Often 25 – 50% less.

FOR THE MAMA

1.  Face Soap:  Instead of Cetaphil, I now use Weleda, One Step Toner and Cleanser.  I usually buy this full-price at Whole Foods, but it seems to be available on-line at iHerb.com now.

2.  Body Soap:  Instead of Dove (which I must admit, I still really like the smell off…), I am using Dr. Bronner’s Organic Pure Castile Liquid Soap Baby Mild Unscented.  At first it was kinda drying, but I seem to have adjusted.  Now I like it!

3.  Shave Gel:  I used to use Skintimate Shave Gel, but now I use Kiss My Face Moisture Shave.  It’s not expensive at all.  And it works every bit as well as my old Skintimate.  I also tried the Weleda Shave Cream and it’s very good, but it’s wicked expensive!  I’m happy with the Kiss My Face.

4.  Shampoo and Conditioner:  Instead of Paul Mitchel Tea Tree Lavender Mint Shampoo and Conditioner, I am using Avalon Organics Tea Tree Mint Treatment Shampoo and Conditioner.

5.   Toothpaste:  Instead of Colgate, I am now using Burt’s Bees Natural Toothpaste Fluoride Free Whitening Peppermint toothpaste.  It takes some getting used to not have your mouth *feel outrageous* from all of the chemicals in the traditional toothpastes.

6.  Body Lotion:  Instead of Neutrogena hand cream, I’ve been using Weleda Skin Food.

7.  Face Lotion:  And, I remain in search of a replacement for my really high SPF face lotion.  Most of the all-natural face lotions have 15 SPF (30 max).  My ghost white skin aint gonna last more than 15 minutes with that kinda whimpy SPF!!  I need like a 45-60 SPF.  So, I continue to apply chemicals to my face each morning…  RECOMMENDATIONS GRATEFULLY ACCPETED!!

8. Other Lotion:  And a final recommendation for the mamas out there is Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil spray.   It works great to soothe cuts and burns.  Especially great for soothing mom’s post-pregnancy.  Apply spray to pad and ahhhhhh.  (Thanks loyal OFF KLTR reader for your recommendation on this one!!)

FOR THE BABA (DAD)

1.  Shampoo:  Instead of the cheapest thing available at Target, Rob is now using Kiss My Face Whenever Shampoo and liking it.

2.  Hair Gel:  Also, instead of the cheapest gel available at Target, Rob is not using Kiss My Face Upper Management Styling Gel Medium Hold and also liking it.

FOR THE JEI JEI & MEI MEI (BIG SISTER & LITTLE SISTER)

Body Soap:  Instead of Cetaphil, the girls are using Dr. Bronner’s Organic Pure Castile Liquid Soap Baby Mild Unscented.  At first the new soap was kinda drying for the girls, but they’ve also adjusted well (like me!).

Shampoo and Conditioner:  The girls are also using the Avalon Organics Tea Tree Mint Treatment Shampoo (like me!).

3.  Lotion:  Instead of Aquafor, the girls are using Un-Petroleum Multi Purpose Jelly.  Thank God we found this one!!  Aquafor is especially bad for children’s skin.

4.  Toothpaste:  Instead of Kids’ Colgate, the girls use Kiss My Face Kids™ Toothpaste Fluoride Free Berry Smart.  This one took ALOT of effort to find.  We tried lots of other kinds/flavors and finally, they both like this one!
