I Think I *Might* Love NIA…

Wait.  I *might* love a form of exercise?  Is this really possible?  I’ve been flirting with NIA for several years now.  I took a few classes at the Y in Foxboro…I went to a NIA workshop a couple of years ago…I went off-and-on last summer/fall.  But now I’ve been going to classes for a few weeks.  Three times a week.  So it seems that NIA and I have become exclusive.  And I have to say, I think that I might just love NIA.  I feel really good!  My stomach muscles constantly hurt (due, of course, to lack of use!!).  But other than that, I am feeling more patient and centered at home.  And while I am doing NIA, I am not constantly watching the clock, praying for the group torture to end!!

So what is NIA?  Well, it’s a dance class.  But it’s oh so much more!  The NIA website explains, “Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit.”  It’s really kind of amazing.  It’s a workout.  But, it’s also an emotional release.  Maybe cardio is always an emotional release, just by virtue of all that sweating?  I wouldn’t know.  But anyway, I think NIA must be at least a deeper release as it is so intentional – releasing all that heavy stuff we carry.  And, it focuses on gathering all the good stuff into our lives:  love, joy, compassion, to name a few!

So I have been going on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.  And one weekend morning.  I go all the way out to Yoga and Nia for Life in West Concord.  It’s only 20 minutes from Keira’s school (where I first drop her off).  Soo…if you ever want to go, let me know!  I’d love a partner in crime (or two or three…)!!

  1. I wish I COULD be your partner in crime! Why is TX so far away from MA???

    • ME, TOO!!! Why is TX so far away?! I was pretty sure that we were going to be neighbors when soooo many people at Rob’s work were transfered down to TX! You, LaRelle, Kai, and Henry were the light in that scary tunnel!! But Rob was not affected. Which was a very good thing as I’m not sure our family could have survived yet another huge change this year!!
